The Glass Bead Studio is Philadelphia’s only working studio exclusively devoted to glass beads and jewelry.
The studio is a focal point for the area’s glass bead community and provides classes in glass bead making. The studio also showcases the work of glass artist Paul Spencer.
Visitors to the studio can choose from a wide array
of focal beads and bead sets for sale. In addition, the
showroom also features the latest jewelry styles from Paul Lawrence Design. This fine art jewelry is the
result of a joint effort by Paul Spencer and
New York City fashion designer Lawrence Kurtz.
Torch working demonstrations are also scheduled on a regular basis at The Glass Bead Studio.

Paul Spencer :: Bio
My artistic career began in the 1980 as a painter of large abstract landscapes. In early 2000 I took my first glass beadmaking class and immediately became hooked. I have not picked up a paintbrush since.
For me, glass is the perfect medium for expanding the boundaries of light and color. What I struggled to create with paint and canvas, now comes naturally with glass. When I am working at the torch, it feels as if I am painting with fire.
I work in soft glass and borosilicate making focal beads and sets. I often combine precious metals with glass when I make
my beads. The Zen series uses palladium and gold and the Haiku series is made using a multi layered technique. I hope you will find them as exciting as I do.
I have studied extensively at
The Studios of The Corning Museum Of Glass and now
make Corning my second home as I divide my time between Corning and Philadelphia. I am very grateful to have studied with some amazingly talented people and lucky enough to consider many of them my friends. My goal is to continue to create uniquely designed art glass beads that accentuate the rhythmic beauty of glass. Paul Spencer
